Energizer to Expand Operations in Asheboro
May 22, 2023
Asheboro, NC – Energizer Holdings, Inc. has announced that it will grow its production and packaging operations in Asheboro with a commitment to invest $43 million in machinery and equipment over a four-year period. The global leader in household batteries, including the Energizer brand with its iconic Energizer Bunny, currently manufactures nearly 1.5 billion batteries in Asheboro annually, a number that will increase based on the company’s announced plans.
Energizer, which will celebrate 75 total years in the community this summer, has two facilities in Asheboro – one where batteries are produced, and another which focuses on packaging. Both facilities will see increased investment and job creation as a result of Energizer’s announcement.
Energizer is committed to retaining its existing workforce of 411 current full-time employees while creating an additional 178 positions with an average annual wage of $54,000. The new positions, which will include operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and engineers, will be created over a five-year period beginning this year. The new positions will add approximately $9.6 million in additional annual payroll to the community.
“We’re incredibly excited about this expansion,” said Abe Prandini, Plant Manager of the Asheboro manufacturing plant. “Our decision to invest in our Asheboro facilities is a testament to the great workforce in the area and we’re looking forward to calling Asheboro our home for many years to come.”
Energizer considered other locations within its global manufacturing footprint before opting to invest in Asheboro. The City of Asheboro and Randolph County collectively offered $420,000 in local incentives over five years to encourage Energizer to grow its operations in Asheboro. “As a legacy employer, Energizer has had a positive impact on the community for seventy-five years,” said Asheboro Mayor David Smith. “That legacy will continue as Energizer adds 178 well-paying jobs to the 411 already in the community. Energizer’s expansion of operations is great news for Asheboro and Randolph County.”
“We are excited to learn that Energizer has selected Randolph County and Asheboro for their expansion project,” said Darrell Frye, Chairman of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners. “As a legacy company, Energizer has been an integral part of the growth and stability of our county, and this will ensure that this will continue in that capacity in the future. It is always rewarding to see our existing industries prosper, grow, and be good corporate partners, helping to make our area a great place to live and work. We congratulate and give thanks to Energizer.”
“We couldn’t be happier to see Energizer’s commitment to continued growth and success in Asheboro, Randolph County, and the NC Carolina Core,” stated Kevin Franklin, president of the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. “We are proud to be the home of Energizer, and we are always ready to help an established employer grow and become more deeply rooted in the community.”
