Customized Training Program – This program is designed to assist new or expanding business/industries with employee training customized to meet particular needs of each industry, even with a small number of trainees.
Those businesses and industries eligible for support through the Customized Training Program include Manufacturing, Technology Intensive (i.e., Information Technology, Life Sciences), Regional or National Warehousing and Distribution Centers, Customer Support Centers, Air Courier Services, National Headquarters with operations outside North Carolina, and Civil Service employees providing technical support to US military installations located in North Carolina.
In order to receive assistance, eligible businesses and industries must demonstrate two or more of the following criteria:
- The business is making an appreciable capital investment;
- The business is deploying new technology;
- The business is creating jobs, expanding an existing workforce, or enhancing the productivity and profitability of the operations within the State;
- The skills of the workers will be enhanced by the assistance.
The Program includes individualized needs assessments and consultations to design and implement customized training for companies that need to upgrade workers’ skills because of technological or process advances. The focus on critical skills changes as technology changes and may be offered on-site or at a community college campus.
Services include instructor training, audiovisual services, non-specialized equipment, employee training and other related training expenses.
English as a Second Language - Non-English students may learn to speak, read, and write English as a second language/or find assistance as they work to receive their US citizenship. These courses are free and study materials are provided at no cost.
Adult Basic Education - This program offers adults the opportunity to earn their adult high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate. Reading, writing, math, social studies, science and vocational subjects are taught. The program can be offered on-site at a business with sufficient enrollment or at the community college.
Human Resources Development (HRD) - Unemployed or underemployed persons are given assistance in setting career goals and ultimately in obtaining a job.
