A business and technology extension service operated as an inter-institutional program of the University of North Carolina. Provides free one-on-one counseling to help new-to-export businesses explore and identify overseas markets, providing research and analysis, and works with companies to develop an international marketing plan.

The SBTDC also serves as North Carolina's City/State partner for the Export-import Bank (Ex-IM), an independent government agency that helps finance the overseas sales of US goods and services. The Bank's programs include working capital guarantees, export credit insurance, guarantees of commercial loans to foreign buyers, and direct loans to foreign buyers. SBTDC may package working capital loan applications.
